March Bullet Journal Set Up

I feel like February has gone so quick, and not just because it’s the shortest month of the year. I have definitely not done as much revision as I would’ve liked to, but right now my priority is finishing my coursework as soon as possible, and I think I’m nearly there. I went to two concerts last month, and I enjoyed both so so much, the best ways to start and end the month.

If you’ve read my 2019 Bullet Journal Set Up post, if you haven’t, I recommend you do, then you’ll know that I set up a new bullet journal for 2019, but the first couple of months were going to be in my current Leuchtturm 1917, so I wasn’t wasting the space in it. Now originially I was going to use my old journal for March, but I hated how it turned out and the look of it. So I decided I would start my new Dingbats notebook, because not only did I not like the set up, I was tired of having my collections and weekly spreads in different journals, so I moved into the new one. So here is the first monthly set up in my new bullet journal.

This month, I’ve further simplified my spreads. Starting with the cover page, I’ve done this cute hanging plant theme, which was inspired by a post on Pinterest. I’m not super happy with the lettering, but I won’t be referring to this spread much throughout the month so it doesn’t really bother me that month. For the drawings, I used 3 different coloured Crayola Supertips, all shades of green, and then the grey and green Zebra Mildliners.

Next is my monthly spread. It’s almost identical to my February spread, but there’s no dutch door and each box is 7×7, rather than 6×6. I used the light green Muji gel pen in 0.38 to draw the gird, and the same grey Mildliner for the background of the date in the corner. I’ve really been loving this grid layout, it’s the right size for me, as my handwriting is quite big, and it’s so clear and easy to understand.

Now, I don’t usually include my weekly spread in my monthly set up, but I feel it’s necessary this month. Instead of having a dedicated spread for my habits, which I always forget to track and lose interest in after the first couple weeks of the month, I’ve decided to create this “Week Summary” page to compensate. Each week, one page will be used as the summary for the week, where I will write events for the week and draw the weekly habit tracker. I think this will benefit me more as I can add and remove habits if I feel like they need to or don’t need to be included. Also, I think it will make me refer to the habits and fill them in everyday as I plan for the next day, as I will be referring to the weekly event anyway.

That is it for my monthly set up. I know it’s nothing special, but whenever I add things I don’t need, I lose interest in the bullet journal system as a whole and my life temporarily spiral out of control. To be honest, this month seems like quite a boring month for me. I have more exams and no parties or events to attend at the minute. I’m excited to see Captain Marvel on the 8th or 9th, I think it should be really good. I hope you all have a wonderful month.

February Bullet Journal Set Up

January is my least favourite month of year, I just find it utterly depressing. But now it’s over! And I’m so glad.

I decided I wanted to be a bit more creative in my journal this month, so went with a really simple rose theme, as an homage to Valentine’s Day.

First is the cover page, which I simply did to take up some more room in my journal, so I can migrate into my new one, which I’m so excited for! To make this spread, I took a roll of sellotape and drew around it with a pencil. Then I drew pink dots using a Zebra Mildliner, which would be the roses, and then small green dashes around them for the leaves, using the green Mildliner from the same pack. Then I took my black Muji gel pen, and drew swirls over the dots, and small, leaf like figures over the green, and drew random lines between the flowers to connect them in a wreath-like shape.

After the cover page is the monthly log, which I actually love setting up. It may just be me, but I love drawing grids, and I really don’t know why, it’s just so satisfying. I really don’t like how the title came out, I hadn’t really decided what I wanted to do with it, and I think it’s really ugly, but it’s only for the month so I’ll live. Each day is 6×6, and there’s 2 spaces for the header. I also made a dutch door, which is cut 7 spaces in from the right. I like this dutch door, as it limits the amount of empty, white space there is on the pages it affects. I got the spacing and the dutch door idea from Planning With Kay, I really recommend watching her YouTube videos if you don’t already, she also makes really cute stickers you may be interested in buying.

On the other side of the dutch door is my habit tracker, which i tracking 5 habits this month. In January I actually did really well with my habits, and I was super proud of myself! There’s really nothing else to say about this spread, because it’s really simple, and doesn’t need an explanation.

Next is my study tracker, which I’ve changed quite a bit from January. This month, I’m using a bar graph, and just tracking the general amount of studying I’m doing, rather than the specific amount for each subject. I hope this will keep me more accountable for the time spent revising, and not focusing on balancing out the time spent revising each subjects. Something I learnt from the 7 Day Exam Plan is that it’s not about how long you spend revising a certain concept. You may sit reviewing for an hour, and still have no clue what that concept means, and you’ll reward yourself for just trying in that hour, rather than actually learning anything. Some concepts may click quite easily, within 10-15 minutes, but others may need a couple of hours before you understand it, so you can’t rate revision success over the time you spent revising, rather over how much you’ve learnt, or how well you’ve learnt one or two concepts within however long it took. This was in a tiny, 2-3 minute section of one of the days in the plan, and it’s helped me so much, just think about all of the other amazing tips you could get if you invest in the program! For just £50, you get 7 30-45 minute lessons, filled to the brim with the best advice to prepare you and help you for your exams. Even though they are aimed mostly at GCSE students, it can anyone at any level, as the tips can be applied to any exam situation.

Finally, is my sleep tracker. I don’t really have an issue with getting enough sleep, I just thought it would be fun to see roughly how much I sleep. I used this same layout in August last year, so I can’t remember whose Instagram account I saw it on, which means I can’t give them credit, but I really wish I could!

Bullet Journal Weekly Spread Ideas

I’ve used quite a few weekly spreads in my bullet journal through 2018, and I know I’m always looking for new spreads, so I decided to give you some inspiration for your own spreads.

This spread is perfect for anyone with a very busy week, as it’s super simple to make, and there’s so much room to write tasks or events or anything that comes up. Each column is 8 spaces wide, with a space between each column.

This is my most used spread recently, it’s so simple to set up and maintain through the week. It really helps to separate my tasks out into smaller, more manageable ones, and having them all in the same place is useful to track where I am with them. I don’t have any real dimensions for the spread, there’s just a smaller section and then a wider one, with the wider for the days of the week. I really recommend trying this spread out.

This spread didn’t really work for me, as I didn’t really like how little space I had to write down my tasks. Each column is 6 spaces wide, and each hour has two spaces. This is really good for time management if you need to keep yourself accountable, but I would recommend using post-it notes for any task lists you’d need, as there’s most likely not enough space.

This is another spread that’s really useful if you have a lot of things to do over the week, especially if you may not know what day you need to do it on, or what day you will do it on. Each box on the left is 10 spaces wide and 9 spaces long.

Once again, this is another simple spread, perfect for if you don’t have a lot of time to set up anything too complicated, or just don’t want the fuss of it. Each box is 16 spaces long, and 12 spaces wide.

This last spread is really useful if you want to separate your personal and work/school tasks and events. I did use this spread during Spring half term, which wasn’t my best idea, but I will be making a similar spread soon I think, because, looking back, I do like this spread. Each day is 5 spaces long, and the notes section is 5 spaces wide. I think this is another really simple spread to make, but it’s very effective in making you more productive.

I’m by no means saying  I am an all-knowing bullet journal guru, but I’ve done a lot of spread experimenting, and wanted to share some of the different spreads I’ve used.

I really need to get my life together though, I’ve had to finish another post on the day it’s being posted, and it’s stressing me out so bad! I’d feel better if I wasn’t prepared because I’ve been doing a lot of school work, but I don’t feel like I have, but I also don’t know what I’ve been doing other than school work, so I’m just a bit confused. I definitely need to sort it out though, and become more organised with my blog, because I love posting and writing.

January Bullet Journal Set Up

Happy New Year, everyone! I actually cannot believe that it’s 2019 already, 2018 has been stressful, but it’s flown by really. The end of the month is my favourite time because I get to plan for the next month in my bullet journal. Even though I don’t make my spreads really artsy and beautiful, I still love setting them up, because they’re probably as artistic as I get. I continue to love this planning system, and I’m excited to see where it can take me in this pivotal year of mine.

Even though I’ve set up my new year spreads (future log, etc) I’m still using my Leuchtturm 1917 grey notebook, just because it seemed stupid to start a new notebook when there was still like 100 pages left in my current one. I’m hoping to start my new journal in March or April.

Once again, I didn’t bother with a cover page, even though it’s a nice divider between the months, it doesn’t help with my productivity or self-care so it’s unnecessary to me right now.

For January, I’ve reverted back to the standard vertical layout, because I couldn’t be bothered to draw a huge grid out. In the top right corner I just wrote a reminder that I need to get a doctor’s appointment as soon as I can, because I knew I’d see it a lot if I put it on the calendar page rather than any other page. I think this spread is simple and quite effective, but I do prefer grid calendars.

Next is a habit tracker. I’ve always had an on-off relationship with trackers, I’ve always wanted to use one, and use it regularly, but I always forgot to fill it in, so just stopped using it. But there are tasks that I should be doing every day, and sometimes I don’t, so I’m once again trying a habit tracker out. I have three habits to track this month, take my pills, moisture my eyelids (I have bad eczema on them *sad face*) and put spot cream on my spots (obviously, where else would I put spot cream?), and I’m hoping I actually keep up to it this time. On the same page, I’ve written my blog post schedule for the month, for no other reason than it’s the only place I had some space.

This is a brand new idea for me. With my GCSEs looming, I need to crack on with revision, and I wanted to be accountable and keep track of how much revision I’m doing for each subject, so I can try to keep the amount of revision equal between all of the subjects. Every day, I will colour in the amount of revision I’ve done for each subject, for example, if I did an hour of history revision on the 3rd I would colour the history/3rd box in orange to mark the hour I did, and so on throughout the month. I got the idea for this spread from Laur Medley on YouTube, it’s from quite an old video though.

Finally, I have my end of month review page. This is another feature I’ve been having an issue with over the last couple months, I stopped doing them in like July, but I’m not sure why, if I’m honest. And I just never got into the habit of doing them again. I decided that I was finally going to include it into my set up again. I found a very similar spread on Pinterest, which was my inspiration for this spread.

I’m not looking forward to going back to school, but once the next 6 months are over, I’ll be able to study the subjects I want to do, rather than the one’s the government wants us to do. I hope that January is nice to you all.

2019 Bullet Journal Set Up

I’m not starting a new notebook for the year, but I have set up all my beginning of the year spreads in a new notebook, so I’ll be using two notebooks for the first few months of the year while I finish my Leuchtturm 1917 journal.

My new notebook is a grey Dingbats A5 dotted notebook with an elephant pressed onto the front cover. I used the dear notebook from Dingbats in my first bullet journal and I loved the look of it. After watching hundreds and hundreds of bullet journal videos on YouTube, I decided that my second notebook was going to be a Leuchtturm because I’m a sucker for following trends. And honestly, I was a little underwhelmed by it. By the way everyone talked about it I thought it would’ve been the greatest notebook ever, but I thought it was overpriced for what it was. It is very pretty to look at, but other than that, it was just an ordinary notebook. I must say that I like the two bookmarks that come in the Leuchtturm, and I will miss that when I finally move into my Dingbats because it only has one. I decided to go back to Dingbats because the covers are so beautiful, and there are no pesky pre-printed pages which would just waste paper. I never referred to my index, so the numbered pages and 3 page index was just a waste.

On the first page of dotted paper, I made a key and a “priorities” section. The key is pretty self-explanatory, it has the different icons I use throughout my journal and the page length and width so I don’t have to count along every time I’m making a spread. I kind of wish I’d made a “grid spacing cheat sheet” as AmandaRachLee called it, where you make a page spread of all of the measurements you may need in your bullet journal so you don’t have to do the maths every time, but I enjoy maths so I don’t mind. The “Priorities” section is where I’m basically putting things I want to do through the year, or things I just need to remember. I wouldn’t call it a goals page, because there’s not really any steps to take to achieve them, they’re just reminders, or things I want to do, but they’re not tasks either. I’m making it sound really complicated, aren’t I?

Next I have my future log, which is where you write any events that aren’t happening in the current month that you need to remember. The width of this notebook is 28 spaces, so four columns fit perfectly on one page. Not going to lie, when I worked it out, I almost cried, because my Leuchtturm is 26 spaces, which only divides into 1, 2, 13 and 26, so nothing ever fits perfectly onto one page. I’ve just got the abbreviation of the month on the top and then the calendar month from Monday to Sunday, then empty space, then a little sections for birthdays. My future log takes up 3 pages, with 4 columns on each page, as I’ve already said.

On the fifth page I didn’t know what else to add, so wrote “you’re strong enough” in the centre of the page. This is to remind myself that I can get through my GCSEs in June and I don’t need to stress too much about them, because I’m strong enough to power through and achieve the academic goals I’ve set myself.

Next is a travel dedicated spread, as I’m hoping to do some travelling in the 10 weeks I have off when I finish my exams. They’ll probably just be day trips, but they’ll be loads of fun. It’s currently empty because I don’t have any plans, but I’m hoping it’ll fill up throughout the year. On the left of the page I’ll write any places that I have visited, for example if I go to Whitby, I’ll write it on the left. And on the right I’ll write anywhere I’ve planned to go, for example, if me and my dad go to Birmingham to watch the football, I’ll write it on the right before we go, and move it to the left when we go.

After that, I have a page for any blog post ideas I have. Before, I had the spread in my monthly set ups, there was a lot of repetition, because I only make like five posts a month. I split the page in half, so there’s hopefully a lot more room and I won’t have to make a second spread, but I won’t be upset if I have to. I haven’t filled it in yet, I definitely need to have a brainstorming session soon.

This is definitely my favourite spread in my set up. I realised that I’m rubbish at keeping track of what I’m posting, how much I’ve done for a post. Sometimes I haven’t done any work for my Sunday post when it gets to Friday, and I get stressed and rush the post, and I’m never happy with the result, because I just haven’t had the time to make it high quality. I didn’t do any pencil plans for this spread, I just knew what I wanted and just went with it, and I’m really happy with the result. It’s quite a simple spread, to be honest. I have the abbreviation of the month in cursive and the date of the first and every Sunday in that month. In the middle of each row there’s space for the title of the blog post, and on the right there’s a tracker so I can see how far away I am to completing my blog post. W = Write, C = Check, I = featured image and S = Schedule. this spread takes up three pages as there’s four months on each page.

Finally, I have a stats page for the blog. I try to not become too obsessed with the traffic my blog is getting, but I think it’ll be nice to see any growth or decline in my blog throughout the year. Along the bottom of the graph I have every month in the year and up the side I have the numbers 0 to 100. I’ll use two different coloured pens to track the views of my blog and the individual visitors. The views will most likely be higher than the visitor numbers, because some people will view more than one page, and every different page that is viewed is one view. I’ll use the extra space at the bottom to make another graph if my views pass 100 in two consecutive months.
